What does this have to do with Higher Education?  What impact does this have on higher education?  Why is it important to know digital technology and its uses in the classroom?

Technology has changed the way students learn. Students today are being referred to as digital natives.  Digital natives are defined as those growing up with technology – they are in and around instant messaging, social media, cell phones, smart phones and laptops. Students incorporate these technologies into their environment and into their daily lives.  Digital Natives were born into technology– they have always had access to a computer and the Internet.  Studies suggest digital natives learn differently the traditional classroom environment of lecturing and note taking is outdated. They are active learners, visual learners and want to be engaged and stimulated.
